Trials of the Betwixt is a captivating supernatural-horror game that thrusts players into a mysterious world caught between life and death. The game follows Christopher, an unfortunate soul chosen by a sinister entity known as The Baron to participate in a harrowing trial. The stakes are high: success could grant Christopher the contract of his dreams, while failure could doom him to a nightmarish fate. Created in just over a month for the Spooktober Game Jam 2023, Trials of the Betwixt is a short but immersive experience, featuring rich storytelling, atmospheric visuals, and an original soundtrack that amplifies the eerie mood.
The game is known for its intricate narrative, which offers one main ending and five optional endings, allowing players to explore different paths and outcomes based on their choices. With around 12,000 words of dialogue and story content, Trials of the Betwixt delivers approximately one hour of playtime. The game is also visually distinct, featuring hand-drawn sprites of both human characters and unsettling creatures, modeled and rendered backgrounds, and six captivating CGs (computer graphics), four of which have variations.
